Girandoles I and II (Rain of Hot Stones)
Cast lead crystal, bronze, nickel plate
19 H x 24 W x 3 D cm
This work derives from images of 18th Century jewellery. I wanted to make work, within a tradition but given a strong twist, distortion. Increase the scale and enter the realm of object; change materials and reduce associated preciousness. With almost an absence of colour, they are animated objects more concerned with complexity of form, playing with the beautiful, courting the grotesque.
