India's Garden
Lost wax cast, mosaic
17 H x 21 W x 21 D cm
From a series of bowls initially inspired by exotic carpets, this piece is intended to capture the richness of the Byzantine and early Christian era. Although jewel-like, I have produced a vessel that reflects the quality of a carpet, where the motif is identical on both sides but where the main body of colour differs. I have used a combination of Egyptian and Roman techniques for making the mosaics which I have then laid in a 'cire perdue' mould.
