"Tholoi" cone forms

Hot formed, blown and cold worked glass
32 H x 16 W x 30 D cm

Tholos (singular, Greek) = a beehive tomb, originally modelled on underground huts used as dwellings. This work refers to the impression felt by the artist on visiting the Treasury of Atreus (also known as Agamemnon's Tomb) at Mycenae, which was entered in complete darkness. It addresses the relationship between the interior and exterior surfaces of the conical forms; with the light transmission between them being amended by varying surface qualities. The forms, in hot glass worked from the furnace, blown and formed by hand, have been cold worked - sand blast, with ground and polished facets.
